Kathryn Moore is an artist who
incorporates many creative disciplines within her work.
Predominantly interested in surface texture and the
tactile quality of materials, Kathryn uses the elements
of landscape as her source of inspiration.
Kathryn was brought up in a rural setting of the West
Country. This has had a significant influence on her
versatility, resourcefulness and appreciation of skills
such as willow weaving, spinning, natural dyeing, pottery
and the creating of images from recycled or found
objects, all of which are combined to a greater or lesser
degree in her work.
An appetite for travel lead Kathryn to take two year long
trips to the Americas, and South East Asia and Australia,
where she kept copious painted diaries of her
explorations. Kathryn has said “Travel was such an
important factor in broadening my knowledge and
experience before I felt prepared to embark on any career
in art.”
After attending Bristol Polytechnic, and her subsequent
move to East Anglia, Kathryn has been a professional
artist, concentrating on private commissions. She has
been involved in numerous community projects, workshops
and exhibitions in and around Peterborough, and was the
founder member, along with fellow painter, Sue Shields,
to form the Peterborough Artists’ Open Studios.
Kathryn’s current work is based on recent travels to
France, Cyprus and Spain. Her vibrant use of colour is
evident in depicting these scenes.
