I have always enjoyed painting and
printing as leisure activities but while on holiday in
Singapore four years ago I was introduced to pottery by a
Chinese potter and discovered the magic of clay.
I enjoy the tactile experience of direct contact with the
clay, feeling the clay’s response to my hands and so each
piece is made, not on a wheel, but by hand with only a
few small tools.
As I still consider myself a learner in this discipline
much of the inspiration for my earlier work came from
other pottery, but now I prefer to use all the natural
forms around us, together with the nature of the clay
itself, to bring an organic feel to my work.
I love to experiment with shapes, textures and glazes and
many times I set out with a plan and by the end find I
have made something completely
different.
