My designs are primarily based on the
natural world where individuality exists among order. I
enjoy the differences that nature produces within the
same species.
I like the physical activity involved in forging metal,
working with it to produce movement in the shape and
surface texture. I am pleased by the differences that
inevitably result even when using the same basic design,
thus making each piece individual.
Many effects can be achieved by hammering metal or using
heat for reticulation but at the moment I am interested
in exploring other processes to produce variety.
I have been using the rolling mill with threads and
fibres, piercing in conjunction with reticulation and
stamping with various shapes . I have been oxidising
silver to change the colour and using some gold with
silver.
I am an enthusiastic recycler – in my jewellery making as
well as in the house and garden – and sometimes find that
damaged items and stones themselves will prompt the
stimulus for a new piece.
