My aim is to give the viewer a real
feel for time and place in a painting – not only “the
view”, but the time of day, the weather, the light, the
sense of how it would feel to be there. Although my work
is representational, I find myself increasingly motivated
to portray light and mood, as well as the scene I am
depicting.
I paint mainly in acrylics, watercolour and pastel. Much
of my work is landscape based, but I may take almost
anything as a topic if I find it inspiring. I especially
love to paint coastal views, trees, mountains, and the
play of light on water. I am an enthusiastic sketcher,
taking a sketchbook as well as a camera whenever I
travel, and using the results as the basis for studio
paintings back at home.
I find portrait painting very rewarding and have noticed
that a painting often captures more of someone’s
personality than a photograph does. I have completed a
number of portrait and landscape commissions, and am
happy to chat over the possibilities if you have
something in mind.
I sincerely hope that you enjoy viewing my work.
