Combining bold simple shapes with textures and surface patterns for tactile and visual interest, she works mainly in silver with accents of high carat gold. Inspired by geometric shapes, ancient symbols and contemporary ceramics, her work is about contrasts of colour and texture.
Denise's ceramics are inspired by regular visits to the Suffolk coast. Coiling, press-forming, and slab-building techniques are used to create small bowls, pots and vessels. Decorated with dry glazes, oxides and 22ct gold leaf, with images of boats, beach huts, birds and fish, Denise aims to capture the essence of coastal landscape.
For the Open Studio event Denise will be exhibiting alongside other artists at Thorpe Lea Road. Weekends: 1,2 and 3
